One of the growing epidemics in real estate that we must address is the rise of squatters.
Squatters often move into properties that are either for rent or have been vacant for a while. Once they’re in, it can be incredibly challenging to remove them due to many real estate laws that protect squatters' rights.
This issue is becoming increasingly common, and it’s something every landlord and property owner needs to be aware of.

In the current environment, it’s critical to keep an eye on any property that’s vacant. Make sure someone is visiting the property a couple of times a week. If you’ve inherited a house from a family member, the same applies—frequent check-ins are crucial.
Professional squatters are known to use fake leases to turn well-maintained properties into trap houses, often for illegal activities like drug use or, even worse, human trafficking. Not only is it difficult and costly to get these squatters out, but the damage they leave behind can be substantial.
Stay vigilant and protect your investment.
One little side note: If you have a home for rent, or have inherited one let the local law enforcement know who you are and the status of the home. It is a extra set of eyes on it.
