Memorial Day: More Than a Barbecue, It’s a Moment of Gratitude

Memorial Day: More Than a Barbecue, It’s a Moment of Gratitude

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, it’s important to pause and remember what this day truly represents.

Memorial Day is a time to honor the brave men and women of our armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice defending the freedoms we enjoy every single day.  It’s not just the unofficial start of summer, a barbecue, or a day by the pool — it’s a moment to reflect on the cost of freedom and those who paid it.

We’re also incredibly proud of those who continue to answer the call to serve today, keeping that tradition of courage and sacrifice alive. In fact, our family has a new generation stepping up.

Our nephew Matthew recently signed up to serve in the United States Navy, and we could not be prouder of him. It’s inspiring to see young men and women, like Mathew and thousands of others, willingly step forward to protect this great nation.  We’re fortunate to be living in a time where pride in becoming a member of the military is once again on the rise, and it fills our hearts with hope for the future.

For me personally, Memorial Day carries deep meaning. My father, Ed Grandon, an incredible man and my greatest role model, served proudly in the military. His strength, values, and love for this country shaped the person I am today. Our family’s military tradition runs deep — from my grandparents to my wife’s grandfather, service to this nation has always been a source of pride and honor.

It’s because of people like them — and countless others — that we’re afforded the freedoms we have today. And it’s those freedoms that allow my sister and I to do what we love: help people find homes and build better lives here in Arizona.

Real estate isn’t just about selling houses; it’s about creating lifestyles and helping families build the American dream, a dream made possible by the sacrifices of others.

Memorial Day is also a perfect reminder for all of us to think about how we can contribute to making our world a little better. Just like the homes we help people find, it’s about building a strong foundation, creating community, and making meaningful connections.

So this weekend, while you’re enjoying the barbecue, the pool, and the company of family and friends, take a moment to remember those who gave some, and especially those who gave all. To every man and woman who’s served, and to those currently serving, we thank you.

From all of us at The Grandon Group, we wish you a safe, meaningful, and happy Memorial Day weekend. God bless those who serve, God bless Arizona, and God bless the United States of America.
