From The Grandon Group — Arizona’s #1 Brother and Sister Real Estate Team, Brokered by My Home Group
As Father’s Day approaches, The Grandon Group would like to take a moment to wish a very special day to all the dads out there. Whether you’re a father, grandfather, stepdad, uncle, or a father figure, this is your reminder that you matter — and the memories you create with your family are priceless.
For me, Father’s Day has always been more than just a holiday. It’s about memories. It’s about the moments we sometimes don’t realize are so important until they’ve passed us by.
I was lucky enough to grow up with the greatest hero I’ve ever known — my dad. We were raised on a big Arabian horse ranch, and to this day, the smell of hay, leather saddles, and fresh-cut pastures takes me back. We bred horses from all over the world, put on the biggest Arabian horse show in the world , and spent countless days working side-by-side. But you know what stands out most to me? It wasn’t the awards, the horses, or the size of the ranch. It was the simple things — grabbing lunch together after a long day in the Arizona sun or sneaking off to a movie a couple of times a week.
As life moved forward, and he got older, I made it a point to pick him up and spend those moments together. Even when it wasn’t always convenient, I never took it for granted. And when he left this world, I knew we made the most of our time together. But I also realized something else: when you lose a parent, you lose a piece of yourself you’ll never quite get back.
That’s why, on Father’s Day, I encourage everyone to put down the phones, shut off the computer, and just be with your dad if you’re lucky enough to still have him here. Share a meal. Watch a game. Laugh about old stories. Because one day, those moments will be the stories you tell.
And this ties into what I love about real estate.
There was a time in this country when people bought a home not just as an investment, but as a place to raise their kids, have family dinners, and watch life happen. A home was where babies became teenagers, where prom pictures were taken in the living room, and where grandkids came over to climb the same trees their parents once did. Families lived there. Grew there. And when the time was right, those homes were passed down to the next generation.
Today, it seems like we’ve moved away from that. Too many people buy homes with one foot out the door — planning to flip it in two or three years and worrying more about the return on investment than the return on memories. And while yes, real estate is a smart investment, I believe we need to get back to the idea that a home is a foundation for a family — a place where dreams take shape and the stories of our lives are written.
I watch my own kids now and see how much they cherished their grandpa. And even though my dad isn’t here, my boys still make time to golf with their other granddad, John. Because they understand — these moments, these relationships, are what truly matter.
So this Father’s Day, whether you’re cooking out in the backyard, catching a D-backs game, or just sitting around the table sharing old stories, soak it up. And if you’re lucky enough to do it in a home filled with memories — or one where you’re just beginning to make them — know that’s the real reason we buy homes in the first place.
